China's Hebei to cut iron, steel production in 2016

The northern province of Hebei, which produces one fourth of the nation's steel, pledged to slash iron and steel production to tackle problems like overcapacity and air pollution.

Production of iron will be reduced by 10 million tons and that of steel by 8 million tonnes this year.

Production of steel and cement will be capped each at 200 million tonnes, and flat glass at 200 million weight cases by the end of 2020 to alleviate overcapacity, Hebei Governor Zhang Qingwei told the local parliament on Friday.

The central government has made tackling overcapacity one of its top priorities in the next five years.

An over-reliance on heavy industry for local growth has left Hebei vulnerable to sustained weakness in demand for capital goods both at home and abroad. Some steelmakers are operating at thin margins and more are operating at a loss.

Production of steel, cement and glass have also been widely blamed for the worsening air pollution in the region.

The province has previously said that it will cut a combined 160 million tonnes in steel, cement and coal, and another 36 million weight cases in glass by 2017 compared with 2013 levels.

In fact, most of the Chinese steel has the problem of excess production capacity. This is a bad news for Seko Machinery, the INOX pipe making machine sales is affected by a lot last year.

What is the annealing?

Annealing, in metallurgy and materials science, is a heat treatment that alters the physical and sometimes chemical properties of a material to increase its ductility and reduce its hardness, making it more workable. It involves heating a material to above its recrystallization temperature, maintaining a suitable temperature, and then cooling.

In annealing, atoms migrate in the crystal lattice and the number of dislocations decreases, leading to the change in ductility and hardness.

In the cases of copper, steel, silver, and brass, this process is performed by heating the material (generally until glowing) for a while and then slowly letting it cool to room temperature in still air. Copper, silver and brass can be cooled slowly in air, or quickly by quenching in water, unlike ferrous metals, such as steel, which must be cooled slowly to anneal. In this fashion, the metal is softened and prepared for further work—such as shaping, stamping, or forming.

The installation of the pipe

Pipe installation is often more expensive than the material and a variety of specialized tools, techniques, and parts have been developed to assist this. Pipe is usually delivered to a customer or jobsite as either "sticks" or lengths of pipe (typically 20 feet, called single random length) or they are prefabricated with elbows, tees and valves into a prefabricated pipe spool [A pipe spool is a piece of pre-assembled pipe and fittings, usually prepared in a shop so that installation on the construction site can be more efficient.]. Typically, pipe smaller than 2.0 inch are not pre-fabricated. The pipe spools are usually tagged with a bar code and the ends are capped (plastic) for protection. The pipe and pipe spools are delivered to a warehouse on a large commercial/industrial job and they may be held indoors or in a gridded laydown yard. The pipe or pipe spool is retrieved, staged, rigged, and then lifted into place. On large process jobs the lift is made using cranes and hoist and other material lifts. They are typically temporarily supported in the steel structure using beam clamps, straps, and small hoists until the Pipe Supports are attached or otherwise secured.

An example of a tool used for installation for a small plumbing pipe (threaded ends) is the pipe wrench. Small pipe is typically not heavy and can be lifted into place by the installation craft laborer. However, during a plant outage or shutdown, the small (small bore) pipe may also be pre-fabricated to expedite installation during the outage. After the pipe is installed it will be tested for leaks. Before testing it may need to be cleaned by blowing air or steam or flushing with a liquid.
